Types of Blood Cancer
ACUTE LYMPHOBLASTIC LEUKAEMIA (ALL)
Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) is a type of blood cancer that starts from young white blood cells called lymphocytes in the bone marrow. The bone marrow is the soft inner part of the bones, where new blood cells are made. It usually develops quickly over days or weeks. It is the most common type of leukaemia to affect children but can also affect adults.
The major risks of the disease are radiation exposure, benzene exposure, smoking, coffee, genetic reasons, past chemotherapy, electromagnetic field exposure, and weak immunity system in child. Factors which can lessen the risks are breast feeding and providing safe environment to child which should be clean and dangerous gases and material exposure free.
ACUTE MYELOID LEUKAEMIA (AML)
Leukaemia is a cancer of the white blood cells and bone marrow. Because white blood cells are found in the lymph nodes and the spleen, leukaemia can affect them, as well as other organs in the body.
They have almost same risk factors as ALL.
CHRONIC MYELOID LEUKAEMIA
Chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) affects a type of white blood cell called a myeloid cell.In particular, it involves a type of myeloid cell called a granulocyte; as a result, you may also hear it called chronic granulocytic leukaemia, or CGL. Over time, these abnormal white blood cells fill the bone marrow, reducing the number of normal white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets that are made. There are different phases of chronic myeloid leukaemia: the chronic phase, accelerated phase and blast phase. There are different treatment options for each phase. In the chronic phase, your doctors would normally only discuss a bone marrow or stem cell transplant with you if the CML hasn’t responded to other treatments.
CHRONIC LYMOTCYTIC LEUKAEMIA
Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) is when your white blood cells called ‘lymphocytes’ aren’t growing properly. Those lymphocytes aren’t fully developed (they’re immature) and they don’t work properly. Over time, these abnormal lymphocytes build up in the lymphatic system, and may cause large, swollen lymph nodes. They may also fill the bone marrow, reducing the number of normal white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets that can be made.
